Maryann
Maryann first stepped into the wellness arena after working in the fashion business for many years. In the world of fashion, you are expected to look the part, so dieting and exercise was a common practice. Though not long after purchasing her first gym membership, Maryann realized staying healthy and fit was more involved than following the latest fad diet or exercising strictly to burn calories. She discovered how exercise relieves stress, and how the mental benefit was just as important as the physical. Wanting to have a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection, Maryann studied exercise science to pursue her first fitness certification.
Learning about physiology explained why many people who devote a lot of time to the gym don’t always get the results they desire; people often exercise inappropriately for their body type and goals. With this, Maryann recognized the need for individualized fitness. She then traded in her high heels for sneakers to start Map 2 Fitness, a private fitness service specializing in portable, individually tailored exercise programs.
As her practice developed, it was clear that even when people make strides in fitness they were not always maximizing the benefits with good nutrition or proper rest. Moreover, stress was often a topic of discussion during sessions. Maryann soon realized that to effectively help people optimize their health she would need to expand her services to a holistic model and address overall wellness.
Being devoted to her practice and passionate for excellence, Maryann earned her degree in Holistic Health and Wellness, then trained to become certified as an Integrative Health Coach through Duke Integrative Medicine. Today she counsels her clients by educating, inspiring and supporting each of them to reach their health goals, by offering the MAP to a healthier lifestyle.
